If you need to pick a flat keyhole lockyou can use a metal nail file, flat-head screwdriver, or straightened paperclip.
Regardless of the method you choose, never pick the lock of a safe that doesn't belong to you. To pick a safe sentry lock, start by inserting a small metal nail file all the way into the keyhole.

With the file in the keyhole as far as it can go, jiggle it up and down to release the pins and stop once you hear a click. After the click, turn the file to the left to open the safe. For digital locks, buy a disc-shaped rare earth magnet with pounds of pull force and hold it to the top left corner of the safe.
Once the magnet is in place, grab the handle and wiggle the magnet as you pull the handle until the internal mechanism unlocks the safe. For more tips, including how to pick a key lock with a paperclip, read on.Translogistica ural

This particular SentrySafe has an electronic lock, four 1-inch bolts to keep the door firmly in place, pry-resistant hinges, and it's able to withstand drops of up to 15 feet. That all sounds great, until you find out that you can open this safe—and pretty much every safe like it—in a matter of seconds using only a magnet.
A rare earth magnetto be precise. Nowadays, most rare earth magnets are made of neodymiumbut there still may be some from the '70s kicking around which were made of a samarium-cobalt alloy. Just be warned that neodymium magnets are extremely powerfuland can quickly wreck your electronics seriously, they'll destroy and hard drive or phone almost instantlyor even lead to bodily injury or death if you're not careful.
Now, watch as Mr. Locksmith gets this thing open in no time. All you have to do to open up the safe is take your trusty sock and magnet device, then attach it to the safe.Kenwood remote control replacement
Well, it's actually not quite that easy. Many of these inexpensive safes use a nickel solenoid to activate the locking mechanism. So, you'll need to locate the solenoid. There isn't too much surface area to these safes, and it should be on the front door, so just slide the magnet around using the sock until you're able to open the safe.
You used to have to bounce these kinds of safes around to get them open. That was simple enough, but this method is quieter and won't leave any signs of damage. Now, you might be wonder about why we need the gym sock at all. Technically, you don't, but these magnets are very strong, and the sock makes it easier to move the magnet around and detach it when you're done. If you've ever had a small neodymium magnet on your fridge, then you know what I mean.
Not only does this method make it easy to bust into a safe or a standard push button lock on a doorit also won't leave any trace of intrusion, as long as you're careful. And speaking of careful, once again, neodymium magnets are extremely dangerous —we literally cannot stress this enough. They are very powerful, and can quickly do harm to you or others around you, so stay focused when you're using them.

We will get through this together. Updated: April 4, Reader-Approved References. Lock picking is an incredibly useful skill and it can be a lifesaver if you lose or forget your keys.
With some simple tools and a little patience, you can crack just about any tumbler lock, giving you access to everything from secured doors to closed padlocks.
To pick a lock, you'll need a tension wrench, which will turn the lock, and a pick, which will pop the pins inside of the lock so that it can be turned. If you don't have professional lock-picking tools, you can pull the end of a paper clip out to form a 90 degree angle with the rest of the clip, or use the bumpy end of a bobby pin for your pick. For the tension wrench, you can use a flathead screwdriver or bend a paper clip into a single length and fold it in half to make it thicker.
First, insert the tip of your tension wrench into the bottom of your lock.Pso2 my room
Push it in far enough that it catches in the grooves of your lock, so you can turn it once the lock is released. Then, insert your pick into the top of the lock while holding your tension wrench in place. To pick the lock, slide the pick underneath the first pin, which will be the first obstacle in the top of the lock, and push it all the way up.
Then, work your pick forward a little until you reach the second pin. Giggle your pick up and down until you get underneath the second pin, then lift it up. Repeat this process for every pin in the lock until the tension wrench turns and opens the lock.

Probably the most important thing to know, when picking a lock, is how the lock works. The common pin-and-tumbler has 3 main parts- a hollow, outer cylinder- - the tumbler the inner cylinder — and a set of pins. The pins are varying lengths and each pin sits in a shaft, running through the tumbler and the outer cylinder, to prevent the tumbler from turning.
All of the pins are in two pieces, a top and bottom section, when the key is inserted the seam between the top and bottom pins align with the seam between the outer cylinder and the tumbler. When the seams are aligned the tumbler can be turned and the lock is opened.
When picking a lock you have to use a pick to move all of the pins into the correct position while keeping tension on the lock with a tension wrench. The first step is to insert the tension wrench into the lock and turn it the same direction that you would turn the key.
There are two ways to pick a lock-- you can move each pin into place one at a time or you can use the technique called raking, raking a lock is not as precise and usually requires finishing by picking the last of the pins that do not fall into place-- when raking the lock you insert the pick to the back of the lock then pull it quickly out pushing all of the pins up while applying tension this is the technique I started with in the video.
When you move all of the pins into place the tumbler will turn unlocking the lock. The concept of picking a lock is simple but it is difficult to actually do.

Great 'ible, by the way. I think I watched to much MacGyver as a kid because somehow I knew how to do this, I shocked a few people last summer when I was able to pick a lock open when they had lost their keys. I also am pretty good about popping the lock on a car who's keys are left inside. Long story short, I think you make a great instructable on the basics of getting into a lock, some great locks for people to try out the skill and get used to it before trying a harder lock is something with two prongs.

Safes are important security tools that have many unique uses, and they give their users an all around enhanced sense of security. Luckily enough for you, I will help you figure out what to do after you forgot a safe combination and you happen to be locked out of your safe.
The first step that you need to take is to identify the type of safe that you have. It goes without saying that it is a safe that uses some type of combination to permit entry, but this does not mean that you have narrowed down which type of safe it is. Due to the fact that there is a wide spectrum of items that people want to keep safe, there are different types of security safes to protect your valuables.
It might sound redundant to tell you to try and figure out what safe you have, but if you forgot your safe combination, doing so will help. Properly identifying your safe means that you will be able to use the appropriate measures to reset your code, recover it, or unlock your safe.
How to Figure Out the Key Pad Lock Combination to Your Safe
The last thing you want to do is panic and use a wrong access method for your safe. That ends up damaging the safe and all of its internal components. If you think this could never happen to you, you should probably talk to someone who has been in a lockout scenario before. Imagine calling emergency services for help and not being able to provide them with any pertinent information.
How exactly will they be able to help you? The same idea applies to your safe. In order to get help, you have to request help for a specific safe. This holds true regardless of whether you contact the manufacturer or the locksmith. You will have to provide some basic information about the safe in order for them to know which course of action they should take.
The information that comes in handy in these situations can either be a serial number or purchase information. The serial number can either be found on the side of the safe as is the case for most Sentry safes or it can be found on the back panel of the safe.
For security purposes, not all safes have their serial numbers inscribed or plastered on the body of the safe. After you have taken stock of the type of safe that you have, you should check whether or not the safe has a key override that can be used for situations like these. Key overrides come in handy because they allow you to gain access to your safe through the use of an alternative method. This works well for emergency situations or situations where you might have to give a secondary party access to your safe.
The key override is also extremely useful for instances where you have forgotten the combination to your safe. It is possible that you did not even know that the safe had a key override. Lots of people neglect to read the user manual when they buy something, so it is not unheard of.
Also, not all safes advertise the fact that they have an override key. This is often done to ensure that people do not have easy access to the keyway. If there is an easy access path to the keyway, it increases the chances of someone potentially overriding the safety mechanisms of the safe, either by drilling or picking the lock.Safes equipped with keypads use digital technology to protect your valuables.
To open one of these safes, you must enter a multi-digit combination into the keypad and then open the door of the safe. Unfortunately, it can be very easy to forget the pass code to your safe when you live an active lifestyle. You may be able to determine your safe pass code without breaking into your safe or resetting it. However, it is not always possible to figure out your safe combination.
Check the instruction manual of your safe to determine how many numbers are in your lock combination. Some safes use a combination of a standard number of letters or characters. Other safes allow you to program a combination of anywhere from two to 10 letters. Attempt popular combination options such as birthdays, anniversaries, PIN codes and favorite numbers.
Input a code, one number at a time, and wait for the beep that signifies that you have unlocked the safe. If you hear no beep, the combination is incorrect. Wait a few minutes and try another combination. Many safes will go into "lockdown" mode if you attempt incorrect combinations multiple times. If this happens, you may have to wait five minutes between combination attempts.
Examine the keypad of your safe. If you open the safe frequently and have not changed the combination, there will be wear on the numbers of your combination.
For example, if the numbers "9," "3" and "2" have the most wear, you may try every variation possible of these three numbers, such as "," "" and " Reset your pass code, if necessary. The technique varies slightly depending on the brand of your safe. Typically, you must hold the "Program" or "Power" key until you hear a beep. You then enter your new combination and press "A" or the pound key, depending on your safe.I had a very nice big safe given to me, but no combination and it was full of valuable items.
So with a LOT of help we loaded it into a truck and drove it to a locksmith.Virpil throttle vs warthog
He could not open it. I took it back home. I asked my neighbor to help me unload it. That is what we did and we could open the safe from the inside. A new plate was welded on and a bit of paint she is just like new.
Answer 10 years ago. I wouldn't suggest that, as he would have to try combinations, and that's if its a cheap safe and only has 3 numbers. Maybe Rotten knows the combination!! Seriously, I have opened a lock like this that had a 4-digit combination.
It took a while, something like trys You'd have to be pretty unlucky to try all I'd try some common guesses first, like '', the address of the building, birthdays of owner, spouse, kids, repeating digits, phone nums, sequences, key numbers backwards, etc When that didn't work, I'd go, etc The safe will open eventually with no damage for free. Depending on how long it takes per try, it might take months, but it is time you have. If you could open it without the combo, it wouldn't be much of a safe, would it?
If you're ready to pay, hire a locksmith. Cheap department-store "safes" are often simply destroyed since they cost less to replace than to repair. Well can you post a picture or something? If there is holes you can proably hit the reset button on the inside with some fiddeling. Follow Asked by in Circuits. Tags: SAFE. Reply Upvote.
